Volunteer at the MoonWalk Scotland 2024!

Bra Image

This year Walk the Walk are in need of some EXTRA support for our Fabulous Walkers Overnight and Sunday Morning... and we NEED YOU!

Our iconic MoonWalk Scotland LIVE sees women and men take to the streets of Edinburgh in decorated bras and unique bra T-shirts as they walk 13.1 or 26.2 miles through the night!

Whether you are new to us, an ex-walker or a seasoned member we would love you to join us in our fight against breast and other cancers.

Our amazing Volunteers form the backbone of the Walk the Walk Team, providing support and encouragement to the Walkers through the depths of the nights.

Help is needed throughout the event from Saturday Overnight to Sunday Morning... with so many different roles and ways to get involved, there is something for everyone.

Let's salsa under the stars, tango till twilight and dazzle from dusk till dawn as we show our support and make a difference!

Why Volunteer with Walk the Walk

Walk the Walk came into being 26 years ago when just 13 Inspirational Women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Since then the camaraderie of Walkers and Volunteers that unite with us, has helped us raise in excess of £140 million for breast cancer!

In order to successfully organise and run our amazing events, such as the MoonWalk London and MoonWalk Scotland, we attract up to 2000 volunteers, across a range of 20 different roles!

John C. Maxwell once said “Teamwork makes the dream work” … that certainly is the case at Walk the Walk! Our events would not be able to go ahead without the dedication and support of our fantastic Volunteers

All of our amazing Volunteers join the Walk the Walk family for many different reasons, but what is certain is that we are so grateful for each and every one of them...

Also Volunteering your time and support can offer a whole host of benefits to your mental health. Check out one of our blogs, which lists just some amazing reasons to get involved and start Volunteering!

What Happens Next?

Once you have completed your registration form you will receive an email officially welcoming you to the Walk the Walk Volunteer Family!

From then on and in the lead up to September, the Volunteer Team will be on hand to help with any questions you may have as well as keep you up to date as we prepare for our Fabulous MoonWalk Fiesta!

Your role, start time and everything you need to know about being part of The MoonWalk Scotland will be sent to you digitally a few weeks before the event. This year we will also be hosting a Virtual Volunteer Briefing to cover all things MoonWalk and answer any questions that pop up along the way. This session will be recorded and made available to watch at a time to suit you.

How to Get There!

Our Volunteers come from all over to support the MoonWalks!

As this is an overnight event, where your finish time may be in the early hours of the morning, we strongly encourage you to check your route before you travel as most public transport does not run through the night.

MoonWalk Scotland is located at Dynamic Earth, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh EH8 8AS

We advise all Volunteers to travel to Dynamic Earth via public transport to avoid congestion in the area. There are lots of different ways to get to us including:

Flying

If you are flying into Edinburgh there is an express bus service from the airport to the city centre which runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Train

The main station in Edinburgh and the most convenient one for transport connections to Dynamic Earth is Waverley Station, located in the city centre. From there it is just 0.8 miles to The MoonWalk Scotland.

Bus

Lothian Bus Number 35 runs through Edinburgh and stops at the Scottish Parliament Building on Canongate Road, which is a 6-minute walk to Dynamic Earth.

With help planning your journey via public transport... Plan your journey here!

Cycling to the MoonWalk

We have bike parking available. If you would like to reserve a place, please email us by 12th August 2024.

Driving There

Please note that there will be NO car or coach parking at the event venue.

Street parking is also extremely limited and certainly, there is none in the park. This link will show you the nearest car parks.

Your Questions Answered!

Am I registered yet?

Once you have completed your registration form we'll send you an email welcoming you to the team. There may be several reasons that you have not received your email, including your email settings or because Walk the Walk does not have your correct email address. If you are unsure please contact the Volunteer Team at [email protected] or call on 01483 741430.

When will I find out what I am doing?

Your role, start time and everything you need to know about being part of The MoonWalk Scotland will be sent to you digitally a few weeks before the event. This year we will also be a Virtual Volunteer Briefing to cover all things MoonWalk and answer any questions you may have. This session will be recorded and made available to watch at a time to suit you.

Can we Volunteer as part of a team?

Yes definitely! Don't just keep this incredible night to yourself, encourage friends, family and colleagues to join you!

Can you put together a work or social team of Volunteers? Fancy tackling a Support Team or Service Station as one team? Speak to the Volunteer Team to talk about how we can help your dream become a reality!

Will I be in the same team as my friends?

If you have told us the names of the people you would like to Volunteer with on your registration form, then you will automatically be placed in the same team. If you would like to add other/new Volunteers or make any changes please email [email protected] with your request.

Am I able to turn up, or bring someone with me to Volunteer, on the night?

We strongly recommend that you register to Volunteer and that anyone who plans to come along with you also registers. We need to know your details in advance in order to allocate you the best role, as well as send out all the essential information you need prior to the event.

If you do not register then the security team will not be able to give you access to the site... which we don't want to happen!

If you would like to turn up on the night, it isn’t a problem, please email [email protected] or call 01483 741430 for further information – if you call during the event, the voicemail system will give you details of the Volunteer Hotline for The MoonWalk Scotland.

Can I collect sponsorship?

Yes, we would be delighted if you collect sponsorship – volunteering is challenging, rewarding and eminently deserving of fundraising. However, we place no expectation on our Volunteers to raise sponsorship. Your commitment of time in support of vital breast cancer causes and hundreds of Walkers is invaluable to us.

Is there a poster I can download?

Yes! Download our MoonWalk Scotland 2024 Poster here...

Print off a copy and pop it up in your window, or ask to share it in your local supermarket or work place notice board, to help get the word out there!

Can I bring my child with me?

Young Volunteers are very welcome provided they are at least 13 years old on the day of the event. Volunteers between 13 and 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult Volunteer and will remain in the MoonWalk Arena throughout their time with us. Under 18's are not permitted to Volunteer between midnight and 6am.

What do I do if I can no longer Volunteer?

We understand that things happen and life can sometimes get in the way… all we ask is that you let us know as soon as possible. If you need to cancel your Volunteering role, please email the Volunteer Team at [email protected].

If you would still like to Volunteer at The MoonWalk Scotland but need to change your availability, please email or call us on 01483 741430 and ask to speak with the Volunteer Team to discuss how we can best help with this.
