Sneaky Peek for the MoonWalk Scotland 2023 LIVE

The Walk the Walk Event Team shares the latest MoonWalk Scotland LIVE News!

Update 08/09/2023

Just one more sleep

Are you ready to MoonWalk? We are so excited to see you... Sleep well and see you tomorrow. Please share some pics on our event page... we want to see how you're getting on!

Thank you for uniting with us against breast and other cancers.

Update 06/09/2023

Please bring food with you...

We want to make you aware that very sadly, having got everyone excited about our catering facility for this year, we have now been very let down and they are unable to attend. As we will now be unable to offer you an option to buy hot food or hot drinks we strongly recommend that you eat well before arriving at Dynamic Earth, and bring food with you that you can stow in your bag for when you return.

We are very disappointed and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Water, as usual, will be readily available at Dynamic Earth, at all Service Stations and can be provided by any of the Bra-Mobiles.

Don’t forget, if you are transferring the bottled water to your own water bottle, we can recycle the empty bottles!

Update 05/09/2023

No Smoking or Vaping

As a cancer charity, we DO NOT allow smoking or vaping anywhere on MoonWalk City for the health and safety of all our Walkers and Volunteers. Please consider others, if you are seen smoking by any Volunteers or the Walk the Walk Team you will be asked to stop and could be escorted off the site.

Thank you in advance.

Keeping on track... GPS

Just in case you didn't know and to remind those that do... all you Full Mooners have signed up for 26.2 miles and Half Mooners, 13.1. These distances have been measured accurately using the latest mechanical odometer. So… a note to all you GPS and app users... ahead of the challenge, we just want to say that inaccuracies over these distances are really common, especially in built-up places in Edinburgh. Trust us, we have seen it all… lots of 'zig-zagging' paths that don't exist, and some even showing people walking on water!... I promise you the route does not ask you to walk on water, so unless we have to make any last-minute route changes, this distance is accurate... you heard it here first!

Your All Weather Poncho... an important piece of kit

Your all Weather Poncho... It might look like a bit of plastic (biodegradable of course) but this is a truly amazing bit of kit and is good for any weather.

If you begin to feel cool, wearing an all-weather poncho can really warm you up. Wear it over the top of your fabulously decorated bra and if you still feel cold after walking for a few minutes, belt your bumbag over the top to keep the plastic close to your skin and put the hood up underneath your cap and you will feel warmer within minutes… as I am sure you know most of your body heat is lost through the top of your head!

Don’t forget yours… If you have already used it whilst training, or you do forget it… We will have limited stock available for a minimum £2.00 donation.

Even if the weekend is warm… and it is looking goooood…. Make sure you bring a few layers including a long sleeved sweatshirt that you can tie around your waist so you have something to put on immediately should you need it. Plus, even if the morning is gorgeous, you will need some warm clothes to put on at the end. Tiredness can make you feel cold even with the sun shining!

DO NOT FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN, the sun can be extremely intense in the early hours and the last thing you want is a red face and a burnt nose on your Finish Line photo! You can find a list of everything you need here.

We say NO to Walking Poles!

We just want to mention that Walk the Walk do not allow Walking Poles on this challenge. Albeit unintentional, they can be extremely dangerous and cause injury, when used on busy streets where other walkers can be close to you.

Our Volunteer Marshalls will request anyone seen using Poles, to hand them over to the  Volunteers, who will then return them to the Volunteer Tent at MoonWalk City where you can collect them up on your return.

Walking sticks are permitted, and if you do need to use any walking aid, please do get in touch with our Walker Support so they can ensure that the relevant people are made aware of your need.

A  HUGE Thank you to Timpson!

Look out for your Timpson offer… Take your medal to any Timson shop in the UK, show them your Voucher and they will engrave it for just £5.00 (normally £10.00 - £15.00) they will engrave the back of your medal with your Name and your Finishing Time… making MoonWalk memories!

Route Map...

If you would like to find out more about where you will be walking on the night... a basic route map can be found here!

Head Torches to help light the way…

You will be offered a head torch on arrival… be sure to put them on upside down to put light on the path ahead and not on the milky way!

You are welcome to keep the head torch, but if you won’t use it again, please leave them with us and will re-use them. You will find big pink buckets to leave them in just after you cross the Finish Line. Thank you in advance J

Rest and Relax in the Recovery Area...

After crossing the Finish Line, and having something to eat or drink you will need to make your way back to Dynamic Earth to collect your bag.

You can also use this amazing space as a Recovery Area, whilst waiting for friends or transport, and on your return, what a treat, you will be able to use the toilets inside Dynamic Earth…, these will only be available on your return from the Finish Line not before!

Hazell Dean!

Many of you will know just what a special supporter we have in Hazell Dean… She recorded an amazing MoonWalk Anthem and the most fantastic version of ‘The Way Old Friends Do’ written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.

Download a copy today, add it to your playlist list, and enjoy the MoonWalk Anthem! It's around £1 a download, so that's 50p every time to Walk the Walk as Hazell is very generously donating 50% of profits to Walk the Walk... every penny makes a difference! A huge THANK YOU Hazell!

Update 13/07/2023

Dynamic Earth joins the MoonWalk Scotland!

Once again we are delighted that our Meeting Area, Bag Store and Recovery space on the night will be at Dynamic Earth… a wonderful place to gather... especially if it’s a bit windy or wet. Meanwhile, our Start and Finish area will be just a few minutes away on Holyrood, in the shadow of Arthurs Seat. If you’re a returning MoonWalker, you will know just how very special it was walking from Dynamic Earth to our twinkling Start Line with our escort of Volunteers!

It will be pink and gorgeous, it was so fantastic last year, we can't wait to be back for more!

How and When you can enter MoonWalk City...

We are still working on the detail but we know many are waiting to make travel plans, so we can say that the Entrance Gate at Dynamic Earth will open its doors from 21.00 pm.

Please note the Start - Finish area on Holyrood will be closed and not accept anyone arriving at the event, until such time as all participants leave Dynamic Earth together but more about that later…

When you arrive at Dynamic Earth, you will need to go through the Entry process to gain access to The MoonWalk. This will mean showing your Walker Number to Security at the entrance to Dynamic Earth. This number is unique to you and should be pinned to the leg of your leggings or shorts so that it is easily visible.

It is worth just mentioning now, so that you can plan ahead, that you can stow a small bag not exceeding 40cm x 55cm in size, with essentials including warm clothes. These can be left overnight in the Bag Store at Dynamic Earth.

Pass on the gift of good health by encouraging just one person to start walking...

Regular walking and being active is possibly one of the greatest gifts that you could pass on... We would love you to encourage just one person to join you as a Walker or even a Volunteer... go on, help to spread good health and well-being... get your friends, family and even your neighbours to join in the fun... what’s not to love!

That's it for now, keep your eyes peeled for more Sneaky Peeks and news in our next email, and we’ll be back in touch again soon. If you have any questions or just want to chat, drop us an email or give us a call on 01483 741430.

We would love to hear from you… Happy walking!
