The Countdown is on for The MoonWalk London

Emotions, Walking Technique, Wristbands and blinging your bra… so just buckle up and enjoy the ride… you're in for the time of your life!

The MoonWalk, before, during and after, is a roller-coaster of emotions, this is very natural… just buckle up and enjoy the ride… you're in for the time of your life! Enjoy your training and trust us when we say the Training Plan works and will get you over the Finish Line!

You may be concerned about your walking times and speed, please try not to worry, this is your own journey, the MoonWalk is not a race… we will be there until the last walker crosses the Finish Line, usually sometime after midday on Sunday.

Walking Techniques

With some simple technique changes, you can move from being a normal walker to a Power Walker – good posture is everything. Start thinking about your upper body posture, your core muscles and keeping your arms at 90 degrees to your body. More information can be found in your Training Guide on page 19 and 20.

As you pick up the pace, you will probably find that you can reach a certain speed but find it difficult to increase. It is impossible to Power Walk without using your arms, strange but true… so, to gain speed, use stronger arms and your feet will follow.

Remember to hold a good posture and keep your back upright and strong.

All about the Wristbands

Some of you are new to MoonWalking and some come back time and time again… we thank you all!

Sadly, over the last few years, our 'gentleman's agreement' of going into the correct starting group that has been allocated to you has been ignored more and more. Unfortunately, a minor indiscretion at the beginning can cause major disruptions further on the route with bottlenecks and queues. It's the usual case of a few people spoiling it for the many… so it had to stop!

Last year, we put a few changes in place and will be doing the same this year... to make sure this is the best year ever… (well, actually, they are all great!) In your Event Pack, you will receive a wristband, this will need to be worn and shown to our security, along with your Walker Number, in order to get into MoonWalk City.

There will be 6 starts all going in waves, so be sure to be in your coloured start area and listen out for announcements from the stage for when your colour start is ready to go. You will then pass through our security checks again to enter the Starting Arena. Please note, you can go back start positions from your colour, but not forward… if you do try to go ahead of your start, you will be refused and asked to go back. So, please help us to ensure everything runs smoothly and that everybody gets away much faster!

Oh my, there really is a bra to decorate

Many of the ladies and certainly the men that Walk the Walk, would not think about wearing a bikini on the beach, let alone a bra in the street, and not to mention those that have prosthesis or reconstruction. So, if you are having doubts, be brave... we are here to help!

There are lots of ways to decorate a bra and conceal those areas you may rather not show… but it's all part of the challenge, and with some creative decorating ideas, I have seen even the most reticent ladies and men rise to the occasion… if you have ever had that feeling of turning up at a fancy dress and you're the only one that hasn't made the effort to get dressed up, it's not much fun… well, that's the MoonWalk… who knows, you may even surprise yourself!

Oh, and by the way boys… don't think that you get away with a T-shirt. Men at Walk the Walk also wear bras, and very handsomely I might add. You have the added bonus of being able to use the cups as pockets for all essentials... so there really is no excuse!

So c'mon let's get creating!

Bling your Bra!

Not everybody is a Picasso, but don't worry, anything goes and every bra is a unique masterpiece. Here are just a few of the bras popping up on social media...  If you haven't started yours yet take a look here and fire up your imagination... keep those Disco creations coming... we want to see more!

Anything goes at a MoonWalk, you don't have to follow the Disco Inferno theme, but some people have been asking for ideas… so here goes… feathers, fringing, tassels, beads, lights, frills, disco balls, fabric pens, and gems, are just a few… let your creative juices run wild.

A few simple tips will make a big difference

  • NEVER decorate under the arms on the elastic to avoid chaffing when walking.
  •  If you decorate the back be sure that your decoration allows the elastic to stretch, or your bra won't fit!
  • Adjust your straps before sewing any decoration onto them.
  • If you stitch onto the cups try not to stitch through to the inside of the cup as it can rub after a few miles and become uncomfortable.
  • Try to do at least one training walk in your bra, or at least wear it around the house for a while... always fun... to make sure it works for you!

Finally, no matter what you create it's all about joining the party and making a difference! Read more tips >
