Experience a new way to travel the Camino da Costa
Walk and Cycle The Camino Portugués Trail
New for 2024, breast cancer charity Walk the Walk has introduced a unique trip, The Camino Portugués Trail, which follows the Camino da Costa – the lesser travelled pilgrim route from the colourful city of Porto, Portugal to the historic streets of Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain.
Covering 173 miles, the trip combines three days cycling along stunning remote coastal paths and three days walking on forest trails through small towns and picturesque villages, collecting stamps in the famous Pilgrim’s Passport along the way.
The trip starts in the saddle, riding above sand dunes and along promenades and boardwalks which hug the dramatic Atlantic coastline, before spending a night in an old convent right on the beach in the small fishing town of A-Guardia.
After three days cycling, take a taxi boat across the River Minho and cross into Northern Spain, where you leave the bikes behind and begin the walking section of the trip.
The scenery changes to woodland paths and small rustic villages. During the day, feast on the local fruit, which hangs from the trees, as you pass by vineyards and bathe tired feet in the hot thermal waters which spring from the path.
Spend a night in Padron and try the delicious peppers, before walking the final stretch through the famous Obradoiro Square and past the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela to collect your well-earned Camino Portugués 2024 Medal and Certificate.
The trip runs from 5-13 October 2024 and costs from £1,800 excluding flights. The price is based on eight nights’ accommodation on a twin-sharing basis and includes most meals, bike hire, guide, Pilgrim’s Passport, training plan, The Camino Portugués 2024 Medal and Certificate, 3 x Camino Portugués Exclusive Technical Bra T-shirts, Walk the Walk high-vis Camino Portugués Cap, arm warmers, bra, neck buff and backpack cover. There is a minimum fundraising amount of £850.
