The Try family's much-loved Grandma will inspire them at The MoonWalk London

Grandma brought love and joy to the lives of so many - it felt right for us to do something positive in her memory.

“Team Try” is taking on the Full Moon (26.2 miles) at The MoonWalk London on Saturday 14th May and it’s a real family affair!

Team leader Hannah Copley-King and her relatives are walking in memory of Hannah’s much-loved Grandma, Pamela Try, after whom the team is named.

Hannah is joined by her mum Alison, aunts Sarah and Lesley, as well as cousins Emma, Rachel and Georgina. The ladies come from all over London and the South East.

Team leader Hannah Copley-King:-

“We’re a very close extended family – the most quirky thing, is that generation after generation of couples have all got married on 6th October! I’m particularly inspired by my grandparents, who always did so much charity work and set a great example to us all.

My grandma passed away from breast cancer in 2019, which is why our huge family group has chosen to take part in The MoonWalk London. Grandma brought love and joy to the lives of so many and so it only felt right for Team Try to do something positive in her memory to raise money for other families who might be going through something similar.

I also have wonderful memories of when my mum and aunt took part in The MoonWalk many years ago in their beautifully decorated bras. I was still really young at the time, but I remember writing letters for Mum to read at certain mile markers – silly jokes and things like that!

I can’t wait to take on The MoonWalk this year. I’ve been walking lots during the pandemic and although I know the full distance will be a challenge, we have our wonderful Grandpa (Douglas Try) supporting us and he will be cheering us on in memory of Grandma”.

Emma:

“We wanted to walk for Grandma - she always loved spending time with her grandchildren, so now she can be our focus on the walk. When I walked it last time I was living with Grandma and she encouraged me on my training, so I’m going to channel that again!”

Rachel:

“When Grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer she remained an inspiration to us all, reminding us to continue seeing the positive and joyful moments that life still had to offer. We knew that whatever happened she was receiving fantastic care and support, allowing us to maximise our time together. By walking The MoonWalk and raising money and awareness we can hopefully support others through their own journeys and allow them the same excellent care that Grandma received, with the goal of beating cancer together.”

Georgina:

“We are such a close family, and always work as a team. When Grandma passed away we knew we wanted to help others who are going through or who have been through what Grandma experienced. She was such a strong leader and we want to do this in her memory as a team once again. We know she will be there with us cheering us on until we all cross the finish line.”

Thank you for sharing your story Team Try and we look forward to seeing you all at The MoonWalk London 2022!
