June 2023 Fundraising Ideas

Have some ‘fun in the sun’ whilst fundraising... take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days and check out some sizzling fundraising ideas.

Utilise the long, hot summer nights with some sizzling fundraising ideas to give your fundraising a Grand Slam!

First Service – Wimbledon!!

Steeped in tradition, Wimbledon is one of the world’s most prestigious tennis events which epitomises the glorious British Summertime.

Fun Fact - last year, overall attendance topped 500,397 for 13 days - 300,000 cups of tea and coffee were served, 250,000 bottles of water, 190,000 sandwiches and a staggering 23 tonnes of luscious strawberries amounting to over 2 million individual berries!

Why not host your very own Wimbledon-style party by showing the big games on TV and serving light refreshments to your friends and family? This could include Pimms and strawberries and cream or spoil your guests with the delights of an Eton Mess piled high with crushed meringue, thickly whipped cream, syrup, and fruit of your choice!  All for a donation of course!

A small sweepstake of the big matches will certainly boost proceeds!

You can also celebrate Wimbledon at work by serving your colleagues strawberries and cream and charging a donation!

Decorate a sun hat

In a world where we are all being encouraged to cover up – how about using the opportunity to encourage your friends to decorate their own unique hat in preparation for a long hot summer? Running a decorating a sun hat competition will help protect everyone – whilst boosting your fundraising pot!

Pooh Sticks and Summer Refreshments by the River

We all enjoy long hot summer evenings and picnics by the river, how about having a game of pooh sticks and exploring 100 Acre Wood like they did in A.A. Milne’s story about Pooh Bear? All you need is a bridge over running water and a few sticks. If you charge an entry fee to take part in the race and for refreshments, you could boost your fundraising pot in one hand while holding a cold drink in your other hand!

Summer Solstice Wednesday 21st June

The summer solstice represents the day when the UK enjoys the most hours of daylight. There is a moment during the afternoon when the sun is directly over the tropic of Capricorn which is what gives the summer solstice its name.

Traditionally some cultures celebrate with feasts, picnics, dance, and music so what better day to give your fundraising a boost by making use of that long, and hopefully warm summer’s day – invite your friends and family to a solstice dinner in return for a contribution to your fundraising. Don’t forget the raffle and you could decorate your space with WTW balloons or offer some pretty summer bracelets to relieve those with heavy currency in their pockets rather than credit cards!

Rounders / Games Night

We are all enjoying the longer evenings this month – so what better time to invite your friends to the local park for an evening of retro summer games? Ask them to contribute to a bring and share a picnic and charge your visitors to get involved in some of the old favourites. Rounders, egg and spoon, skipping, wheelbarrow and bean bag races always go down well particularly while enjoying the sunshine and reminiscing about school sports days!

Jam Making

Picking your own fruit is one of the true delights of Summer.  Or maybe you have a glut of seasonal fruit.  Why not turn this into some mouth-watering jam or preserve?  The golden rule for jam-making is to turn the fruit into jam or preserve as quickly as possible. Sell this to friends or family to raise funds at work, via Facebook or on local websites. Or you may like to market your jam by setting up a stall at your local fete or club, outside your home, at the local church, delicatessens, tea rooms or car boot sales.

Anyone for afternoon tea with scones, clotted cream, and jam?

Dance, Dance, Dance – Boost your fundraising!

Get in the groove by organising a Dance-a-thon for friends, relatives, work colleagues and your local club.

Adopt a fun theme to include 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, Disco, rave or just dressing up!

Dancers raise funds by paying an entrance fee and committing to “strut their stuff” within a 12- 48  hour term in exchange for donations.

If you have a big budget, hire a DJ to help you to spin some tunes, alternatively, you may like to arrange a virtual event or Silent Disco, Salsa or Ceroc.
