Walk the Walk have joined a collaboration of 46 other cancer charities - #OneCancerVoice - urging the UK and devolved governments to put cancer patients at the centre of pandemic recovery plans.
40,000 fewer people started cancer treatment across the UK last year. We need the UK governments to act now to help clear the substantial backlog of cancer tests and treatments - cancer won’t wait for the pandemic to pass. We also believe that just getting cancer services back to pre-pandemic levels is simply not enough.
Walk the Walk’s Founder and Chief Executive Nina Barough explains why Walk the Walk is passionate about supporting #OneCancerVoice:
"Walk the Walk are committed to joining One Cancer Voice in the united message to the Governments across all 4 nations - you have the power to make changes, make them now. COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on both those living with cancer and for the many where fear of getting COVID-19 has prevented them coming forward with symptoms; as a result we have seen a dramatic increase in non-treatable cancers being diagnosed.
This situation can be avoided and needs support and funding to find a route not only out of this pandemic, but towards developing world–leading cancer services. Cancer won’t wait and neither should the Government."
