October Fundraising Ideas 2024

As October rolls in with crisp air and vibrant colours, let's ramp up our fundraising efforts with some Autumn inspired fundraising ideas!

It's that time again! We can start looking forward to cosy Autumn vibes and the early excitement of the upcoming Christmas season!  Whether you’re looking to get creative with Halloween fun or start planning ahead for Christmas, there are plenty of ways to make a difference this month. Let’s use this time to celebrate Autumn but also to get a head start on planning for Christmas!

Spooky Movie Night

Host a Halloween-themed movie night at your local community centre or at home. Charge a small entry fee and offer themed snacks and drinks. It’s a fun way to gather friends and family for a good cause and a fun evening!

Halloween Bake Sale: Get into the creepy spirit with a Halloween-themed bake sale. Encourage friends to bake and donate their favourite seasonal treats—think pumpkin spice, apple pies, and ghoulish cupcakes, now’s your chance to use green or orange icing! Set up a stall at a local event or your child’s school and raise funds while spreading seasonal spookiness!

Halloween Costume Contest

Get spooky and organise a costume contest for the kids (and the adults too). Charge an entry fee and have prizes for the most creative or funniest costume. You can host this before or on Halloween night, and even add a Halloween trivia quiz for some extra adult fun!

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice: Host a cosy autumn-themed evening with hot drinks, like spiced lattes and mulled cider, alongside seasonal snacks. Invite your guests to enjoy live music or a poetry reading, with entry fees and donations supporting the cause, and make sure you add in a raffle! Many supermarkets are willing to donate prizes to a good cause (the Co-op is usually very co-operative!)

“Clear Out for a Cause” Garage Sale

As you prepare for winter, it is the perfect time to declutter! Organise a garage sale or use a virtual marketplace such as Facebook or Vinted and all the proceeds can go towards your fundraising page. This is a great way to raise money and encourage sustainable shopping at the same time! Or another option is attending a Car Boot Sale - Find a local one near to you by clicking here.

If you would like a tub or a banner, all you have to do is click here.

How about a "***Bonfire Night *** Firework Display & Hot Chocolate Stand"?

Get together with your team members to host a community firework display to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night! You can set up a hot chocolate stand where everyone can donate for a warm cuppa. Charge for entry and you could offer sparklers for a small donation, making it fun for all ages. Partner with local vendors for food stalls or snacks, with a % of the proceeds going to your fundraising, or bake up a load of jacket spuds to fill! It’s a great way to gather people together, enjoy the festivities, and raise funds!

Start thinking about Christmas!

Sorry about using the ‘C word!’  It’s never too early to start preparing for the festive season!

If you love all things handmade, now is the time to start your crafting, knitting or crochet projects. Why not make some shelf sitters/elves, tree decorations, ornaments and Christmas cards, construct table centre pieces, sew Christmas stockings or create wreaths! Get ideas and patterns from Pinterest, Google and YouTube!

You can then sell your goodies or to friends and work colleagues via social media or at Christmas fairs, so go online to find a fair and get booked in. Check out this site for example, or sell via Facebook Marketplace. So, what’s stopping you? 'Tis the season to get sticking, sewing and knitting! A big thanks to our wonderful fundraiser, Pat Knight, for the jolly photo of Xmas shelf sitters she made!

Let’s make this October a month of fun and fundraising! Whether you choose one of these ideas or create your own, your efforts help support those living with breast and other cancers!
