Story of the Walk the Walk Bras

Wearing decorated bras was the outcome of a dream which the charity’s founder Nina Barough had in 1996. She dreamt that she was walking the New York Marathon in a decorated bra raising money for breast cancer.

Mention walking in a decorated bra to raise money and awareness for charity and people will instantly think of the iconic MoonWalk. "So what is happening this year about decorating our bras when it is a Virtual event?" we hear you say.

For almost 25 years this unique and fun trademark of Walk the Walk has been a very special ingredient of The MoonWalk for women and men taking part in the challenge. Unfortunately, 2021 is very different in many ways and hopefully for this year only we suggest if you do not feel comfortable wearing your decorated bra, wear your unique event T-shirt instead.

Don’t be disappointed if you have set your heart on creating your “Out of this World themed bra”... don't let it stop you, still create your masterpiece and hang it from your bumbag to show it off as you complete your MoonWalk!

Wearing decorated bras was the outcome of a dream which the charity’s founder Nina Barough had in 1996. She dreamt that she was walking the New York Marathon in a decorated bra raising money for breast cancer.

In true Nina fashion, she acted on her dream, roped in a few friends and made her dream a reality.

Did you know?

Originally if you wanted to join The MoonWalk you had to get a bra designed by a famous celebrity or personality -  that was your entry ticket. The bras worn in the beginning were then auctioned and raised a lot of money. Since then, Walk the Walk has been working on a collection that can be featured in exhibitions to raise even more awareness that breast cancer is not selective and can affect anybody.

And of course decorated bras have been worn by thousands and thousands of walkers and have helped raise an astonishing £133 million. Not only raising awareness but this money has been granted to organisations to help improve the lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Don’t forget to share photos of your wonderful MoonWalk bras with us, we love to see them!
