Prem and I had a fantastic day in Sheffield, celebrating the arrival of the final three scalp coolers to Weston Park. 28 had already been delivered to five hospitals in South Yorkshire – Barnsley, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Weston Park – taking us a step further to realising Nina’s dream of everybody having the choice to use Paxman Scalp Coolers.
Our adventure started at Debenhams, where we were given a fantastic welcome by store Manager Gordon and his Team, a lovely pink carpet was delivered and donated by Sheffield Carpets. Tricia and Rosalyn, two of the original Calendar Girls, arrived along with Claire, Richard and Maria from Paxman.
The Scalp Coolers had had a wonderful few days, raising awareness “modelling” in the window and left as stars on the pink carpet, accompanied by the Calendar Girls, being mobbed and cheered by a crowd brandishing placards in support! After posing for several photographs and many filming on their phones, they made their way in a pink limo to the hospital.
Wow, what a reception! The Lord Mayor, Weston Park staff, and representatives from the other hospitals were all waiting to welcome them!
Pauline Pledge, Matron at Weston Park, expressed her gratitude to Walk the Walk and our amazing walkers who raised the money to make this happen. She is the most inspirational lady, who is passionate about her job and getting the very best treatment for her patients. She worked really hard to ensure that the machines were granted to Weston Park.
