How Helen overcame fundraising fatigue for charity Walk the Walk

Raffles at work did well for me as it was much easier to get people to be generous with the odd £1 or £2 rather than them pledging a sponsorship

Raising money is an issue when you have 'walked the walk' a number of times and even more so when you are are walking year on year!!

This years trip to The MoonWalk Iceland meant a larger amount needed to be pledged and some thinking outside the box…

Raffles at work did well for me as it was much easier to get people to be generous with the odd £1 or £2 rather than them pledging a sponsorship and then never remembering to bring it in!! I did both an Easter and Valentines raffles both with champagne and chocolate themed treats...

I bought the raffle items myself and it's worth keeping an eye out for a bargain in the supermarkets. Making it look fancy with ribbons and sparkle always helps and I had a couple of colleagues who were helpful in selling tickets when I wasn’t on duty. A couple of weeks before leaving for Iceland I did a cake sale at work. I am a ward nurse and colleagues were incredibly supportive both in baking and eating cakes and I raised both money and awareness that day.

My daughter (a previous MoonWalk London veteran!) helped and we wore our bra tee shirts and provided information about the challenge and the ethos of the charity. I think holding the cake sale so near to the event helped as many of my colleagues saw it as an opportunity to wish me well and give me a send off.

I raised nearly £300 just on these 3 activities.
