Guy shares his story of Walking 1000 miles

To give you motivation during training for your breast cancer charity walk, hear from Country Walking Magazine Editor, Guy, on the #walk1000miles challenge!

As charity partner for Country Walking Magazine's #walk1000miles in 2019 challenge, we've been speaking to Walkers who are getting involved! We've also heard from Country Walking Magazine's Editor, Guy Procter. Guy tells us more about the #walk1000miles challenge and why Country Walking Magazine and Walk the Walk make the perfect partnership.

A couple of years ago my wife signed up to do the MoonWalk London and it began the happiest, healthiest period of her life so far. She was positively driven – and we walked and walked and walked, and she talked and talked and talked with her posse of fellow MoonWalkers, about their plans, preparations, hopes and fears. I’ll never forget the look of boundless, bright-eyed pride and pleasure that shone through the weariness when I met her at the Finish Line.

I’ve always loved walking, but this concentrated blast of the benefits of purposeful plodding was inspiring – and I knew from that moment I wanted Country Walking magazine and Walk the Walk to work together.

#walk1000miles is our year-long challenge to encourage people to walk an average of 2.74 miles a day to reach an incredible total in 12 months, and it complements your MoonWalk perfectly. It works out at about 40-50 minutes a day, and you can do it on your own or with friends – but always with the support of an online community frequently described as the friendliest group on the internet (alongside Walk the Walk’s MoonWalker’s Hub of course!)...

It shares with the MoonWalk that sense of camaraderie and the cumulative benefit of walking more with a common cause to spur you on. It makes a helpful motivator in the dark or damp days in the first part of the year, and it sustains the fitness and vigour gained for your MoonWalk all year long. Whether they do it for their health, happiness, weightloss, adventure, family fitness, charity or fun participants tell us it’s changed their lives. 99.9% say they’d recommend it to a friend. If you’re doing the MoonWalk this year you’re already doing something amazing for a great cause; if you want to build on that and do something INCREDIBLE for yourself, how about walking 1000 miles?
