Cornish composer makes music in aid of breast cancer

MoonWalker creates a beautiful piece of music with all profits from the track going to Walk the Walk after mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Cornish composer

We just love the many unique ways our wonderful MoonWalkers raise money for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.

Annabel Bennett from Padstow in Cornwall is taking part in The MoonWalk London on Saturday 11th May, inspired by her Mum Joan Bose, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

Annabel is also a hugely talented composer, who wrote and recorded a beautiful classical piano track for her Mum to listen to while undergoing chemotherapy. We’re delighted that “Look In The Mirror” has just gone on sale, with all profits from sales being donated to Walk the Walk.

“When Mum told me she had breast cancer, I was devastated. After letting it sink in for a while I thought I have been, in many ways, very lucky that I’m able to retreat to my piano in the good times and the bad. Shortly after the news, I sat down at the piano and what started off to be a bad day led into good moments of reflection and inspiration. I hope the music written for Mum can help many others. I’m looking forward to taking part in The MoonWalk for my mum. Walk The Walk is such a great charity and one very close to our hearts.”

Annabel’s Mum Joan Bose has just completed a course of chemotherapy at Treliske Hospital in Truro and has been told she is now cancer free. Having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 she is delighted that her daughter’s musical talents are helping to make such a difference to others.

“I love Annabel's music and I'm so proud of her talent and absolute dedication to her work. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2018 and was told that I would have chemotherapy, Annabel recorded a few pieces of her music for me to listen to during the weekly treatment. I found this so soothing and in fact positively healing. I was particularly moved when she wrote a piece especially for me called 'Look in the Mirror.’ I told Annabel about the wonderful charity Walk the Walk and how it grants millions for research into breast cancer, as well as supporting women and men both during and after cancer treatment. She immediately said that she would like to do The MoonWalk, release the single 'Look in the Mirror' and donate all profits from sales of the record to the charity. This is a way of expressing her love and support for me. Breast cancer has changed my life and my family’s lives and I have found many positive experiences throughout the journey. I have encouraged many other women to have regular mammograms. This I know has really helped the whole healing process.”

Annabel Bennett runs a B and B in Padstow, where she is also about to open a new restaurant. Her music first became known when she was discovered in 2018 and released her debut ‘Solitaire’. Following this, she uploaded a collection of tracks to BBC Introducing, under the pseudonym “Arthur Parker”.

Music by both Annabel and her pseudonym “Arthur Parker” has been championed by BBC Devon and Cornwall, giving Annabel a new found confidence as a composer. At the same time, her Mum Joan was diagnosed with breast cancer, inspiring Annabel to compose this new track.

Nina Barough CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk said:
