Andrea’s 100k Virtual SunWalk Festival Challenge to mark a decade since she was diagnosed with breast cancer

"Fuelled by a desire to mark the 10-year anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis in a positive way, I decided to sign up for 100k!"

The Virtual SunWalk Festival is perfect for the summer of 2021! It’s the festival which you can count on... and the festival which goes wherever you go!

And that’s exactly what Andrea has done... she’s taken the Virtual SunWalk Festival on holiday with her to Devon and Dorset this week. She’s really looking forward to taking on The MoonWalk London in 2022, but in the meantime, completing 100km this week is her goal, as she marks 10 years since her own breast cancer diagnosis.

Here is Andrea’s inspiring story:-

“In September it will be 10 years since, at the age of 41, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. There was no history in my family and it came as a total shock. What followed was a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but also a great realisation as to the number of people who develop breast cancer. Whilst this was truly shocking it also made me aware of the number of organisations out there who day after day work to support people like me and my family.

A couple of years ago I was talking to colleagues at work about how I would like to do a challenge and one that meant something. Someone mentioned The MoonWalk and we all agreed this was something we had considered, but just never got round to signing up for. Driven by a wave of enthusiasm, we all signed up, but alas Covid arrived. Although the alternative virtual challenges looked great, we all decided we wanted to do the "real thing" and so are looking forward to getting our bras ready for May 2022!

In the meantime, I was mindful of the 10-year anniversary of my diagnosis approaching and fuelled by a desire to mark this in a positive way, I decided to do the 100k Virtual SunWalk Festival Challenge.

I’m taking on the challenge during a trip to beautiful Dorset and Devon with my husband! We’ve wanted to come here for a while, and what better way to tick off the kms whilst raising some money too.

We’ve been on holiday since Saturday and I’m now more than 50 km in! I’m just loving the challenge and the beautiful coast and countryside of Dorset and Devon.

Wish me luck for the rest of the week!”

You can sign up for the Virtual SunWalk Festiva here... distances need to be completed by 8th August. There’s a challenge for all ages and abilities – 5k, 10k and a Half Marathon (13.1 miles), all to be completed in one pop, or 100k, which can be spread over the week.
