Our Founder Nina was delighted to meet the Duchess of Cornwall today at Maggie’s Glasgow, for which Walk the Walk is the principal funder, thanks to funds raised by The MoonWalk Scotland!
In 2011, money raised by you, our wonderful Walkers, allowed Maggie’s to build the centre, offering free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends.
Our very own Sally and some of our amazing MoonWalkers joined Nina to meet The Duchess, who is Maggie’s President and is known in Scotland as The Duchess of Rothesay.
Her Royal Highness, who has supported Maggie’s for 10 years, arrived at the centre with the charity’s Chief Executive Laura Lee, before being welcomed by their Patron and broadcaster Kirsty Wark.
On a tour of the centre The Duchess met staff and centre visitors, who shared a little of their own cancer experiences.
Lily Jencks, who designed the gardens at the centre and is the daughter of Maggie’s Founder Maggie Keswick-Jencks, also met Her Royal Highness, before The Duchess enjoyed a juicing demonstration (part of Maggie’s Nutrition programme) in the kitchen area.
Nina Barough CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk said:“It was wonderful to be back at Maggie’s Glasgow. This is one of the first projects that we funded in Scotland and like all Maggie’s Centres it has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This was made even more special by such a lovely occasion and it was an honour to meet the Duchess of Rothesay. Not only that, but I think it’s always so important for our Walkers to experience at first-hand how the money they raise is being used. We hope that people in Scotland will continue supporting us at The MoonWalk Scotland, so that we can keep on making a difference where it is most needed”
Laura Lee, Chief Executive of Maggie’s, said:“It’s always an honour to welcome The Duchess of Rothesay to one of our Centres. In the 10 years that Her Royal Highness has been Maggie’s President, she has visited many of our Centres in England, Wales and Scotland. Her visits make a huge impact and her warmth and generosity of spirit is greatly appreciated by all who meet her. We’re incredibly grateful to Her Royal Highness for her passion and continued unswerving commitment to Maggie’s.”
