Route Map…

Find out where you will be MoonWalking and all the sights you are going to see… Route Map can be found here.

Have you decorated your bra?

This may be your very first time, but whatever you do, don’t stress about it, just have fun! Share with us how you will be decorating bra or even Bra T-shirt across our social media using #MoonWalkScot

We can’t wait to see your ‘Musical Extravaganza’ creations… but as we say anything goes at The MoonWalk… whatever tickles your fancy!

Don’t forget… Visit our Pop up Shop and have a go on our Tombola and Lottery!

Visit our shop it may be small but there are lots of fun things to tempt you… plus, will you be one of the lucky ones? Give our TOMBOLA a try, lots of prizes must be won… Saturday is a great time to sign up for the Lottery, cash prizes every week and all it takes is as little as £1.00 a month, give it a go!

Enter the Prize Draw just by handing in your Entrance Ticket when you arrive!

All you have to do is make sure you remove the tab on the bottom of your Walker Number and that will automatically enter you into our Prize Draw, lots of prizes to be won… Star Prize a set of Schokz headphones!

Your All Weather Poncho… an important piece of kit

Don’t forget your all Weather Poncho… It might look like a bit of plastic (biodegradable of course) but this is a truly amazing all-rounder bit of kit and is good for wet, windy and cool weather.

I am saying this quietly, but the weather is looking pretty good for Saturday and into Sunday. However, it is always good to be prepared so if you do start to feel cool, wearing an all-weather poncho can warm you up in no time. Wear it over the top of your fabulously decorated bra, or MoonWalk T-shirt and if you still feel cold after walking for a few minutes, belt your bumbag over the top to keep the plastic close to your skin. As I am sure you know, most of your body heat is lost through the top of your head, so, put the poncho hood up underneath your cap, and you are guaranteed to feel warmer within minutes!

If you have already used the one we sent to you whilst training, or you forget it on the night… We will have limited stock available for a minimum £3.00 donation.

Even if the MoonWalk weekend daytime weather is warm, tiredness can make you feel cold, even when the sun is shining!… Make sure you bring a few extra layers including a long-sleeved sweatshirt that you can tie around your waist, so you have something to put on as soon as you need it. Plus, even if the morning is gorgeous, when you finally reach the Finish Line and come to a stop, your body will cool down quite rapidly and you will need some warm clothes.

DO NOT FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN, the sun can be extremely intense in the early hours and the last thing you want is a red face and a burnt nose on your Finish Line photo!

Fill your own water bottle or buy a Walk the Walk bottle on the night!

Water is in plentiful supply at the MoonWalk both at the arena, at our Service Stations out on the route and in all our recovery vehicles.

As always, it is a careful balance to support the need for everyone to have easy and quick access to water for all our health and safety reasons, but also to meet our environmental ambitions.

Bring your own water bottle, or buy a Walk the Walk bottle and transfer the water into your own bottle. By putting the empty bottle into the bin, we can then collect and recycle them.

Our Eco bottle is made in the UK from sustainable material and manufactured using renewable energy, is recyclable, BPA free and dishwasher safe… what’s not to love!

Only ONE WEEK to go until the last MoonWalk in Edinburgh!💃

Wow… The time has NEARLY come Scotland MoonWalkers… Are you ready!?

This time next week you will be packing your bumbags, lacing your shoes and heading to Holyrood as the countdown is on to your BIG night of fun and sparkle, The MoonWalk Scotland 2025! We just need to remind you of a few important things as we approach the big night so here goes…

Look for the Meet Up Flag

Calling all ‘Solo Walkers’ out there (remember you are never alone at a MoonWalk!) if you are looking to meet up with others then find the Pink Meet up Flag at the MoonWalk Arena and have fun meeting old friends and new as you get ready to set out on your challenge!

Have a drink on us!

When you cross the Finish Line make sure you use your ‘hot drink voucher’ attached to your walker number.

Take this to ‘Coffee ‘N’ Stuff’ after you have conquered your challenge… we might not be able to offer you champagne, but you can swap it for any hot drink of your choice. Enjoy!

There are just a few things we just have to say NO too!

We say NO to Walking Poles!

We just want to mention that Walk the Walk do not allow Walking Poles on this challenge. Albeit unintentional, they can be extremely dangerous and cause injury, when used on busy streets where other walkers can be close to you.

Our Volunteer Marshalls will request anyone seen using Poles, to hand them over to a member of staff, who will then return them to the POP UP SHOP at the MoonWalk Arena where you can collect them on your return.

Walking sticks and other mobility aids are permitted. If you do need to use any walking aid, please do get in touch with our Walker Support Team at the Office, so they can arrange for you to collect a pass at the Help Desk on the night. We can then ensure that our Volunteers and Marshalls are made aware of your requirements.

Email [email protected] to let a member of our team know.

No Smoking,  Vaping or E-Cigarettes

As a cancer charity, we DO NOT allow smoking, vaping or the use of E-Cigarettes anywhere in the MoonWalk arena for the health and safety of all our Walkers and Volunteers. Please consider others, if you are seen smoking or vaping by any Volunteers or the Walk the Walk Team you will be asked to stop and could be escorted off the site.

Capture the moment

Finally, we’ll be sharing more soon, but there are lots of landmarks lighting up pink to wrap you in a big hug as you walk around Edinburgh. Send us your best photos on the night… we want to share in your adventure at the last MoonWalk in Edinburgh! Don’t forget to use #MoonWalkScot so we can see and celebrate your amazing moments!

In the meantime,  you have a few miles to walk… so let’s start Walking the Walk!

Get ready to party at the MoonWalk! 🎉

Our Moonwalk’s just got dramatic… Are you ready to sing along? This year our MoonWalk theme is the Wonderful World of MUSICALS!

Choose your favourite, from Rocky Horror to Cinderella, get out the fringing and feathers and cover your bra with colour and fun! We can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Clothes and shoes

Make  sure you wear the right clothes. From the inside out, wear breathable layers, not too many. Possibly a base layer and light polar fleece as you will heat up as you walk. Make sure you have a waterproof and windproof jacket with a hood, and if necessary waterproof trousers.

If like me you suffer from cold hands gloves are essential, as our extremities can really feel the cold, even if the rest of you is warm. Try using a small reusable heat pad in each glove.

Carry a water bottle with you at all times. If cold water in the winter isn’t for you, I recommend adding mint or fresh ginger and hot water to make a really comforting drink. Remember to sip little and often rather than gulp it all down.

A buff or scarf over your mouth can help especially when the temperature drops. Given that we lose 7 – 10% of our heat through our head, I also recommend wearing a pull on beanie that you can then pull your jacket hood over the top of, if you need to. Finally, don’t forget lip salve it’s a must when it’s cold.

But, we’re all different, getting the right combination for you is vital. Overheating and then having cold sweat next to your body becomes really uncomfortable and very unpleasant in winter. If you’re not sure, take a light day pack that you can carry either an extra layer, or discard clothing if you need to.

When it comes to your feet, no matter what terrain you are walking it is best to have Gore-tex of waterproof trainers, trail shoes or walking boots, to avoid having wet feet.

If you have the right clothing to hand, winter walking can be exhilarating whatever the weather and look at the benefits!

Boosting your immune system

Because being active boosts your immune system and makes it work harder, in turn it decreases your chances of catching colds and other winter viruses.

Release stress and improve your mood

If you are someone who suffers the winter blues or SAD as it is known, then a brisk walk could be just the answer to get your endorphins or ‘happy hormones’ working. When the wind is blowing or the temperature drops, it can be very tempting to stay cosy inside. But, walking outside even for 15 minutes can help blow away the cobwebs as the old saying goes, and have a profound impact on your mood and wellbeing.

Burn calories

Because your body’s metabolism will have to work harder to keep warm, you will burn more calories. At the same time, by increasing your heart rate and turning your walk into an aerobic workout you’re supporting your heart health… Just keep an eye on the warming hot chocolate at the end of your walk!

Have you got the right shoes?

Whether you’re Walking or Volunteering if you are considering buying some walking shoes make sure you check out our top tips on finding the right shoe for you.

That’s it for now, keep your eyes peeled for more Sneaky Peeks and news in our next email, and we’ll be back in touch again soon. If you have any questions or just want to chat, drop us an email or give us a call on 01483 741430.

We would love to hear from you… Happy walking!
