  1. 2020 Day to Day Itinerary

Details below are for 2019 and will be updated for 2020.

    Day 1 –  Thursday 13 June 2019

Meet the team at London Heathrow approximately 10:00 and your MoonWalk Iceland adventure begins! The flight departs to Keflavik International Airport at approximately 13.00 (please note, timings are subject to change by the airlines).

On arrival into Keflavik, you will collect your bags and head to your coaches. You’ll soon have your first glimpse of the spectacular landscape that Iceland is famous for...

The team will head off to the Reykjanes Peninsula, located on a drift zone, between two continents, the North American plate and the Eurasian plate. This is a wonderful part of Iceland because of its combination of natural phenomenon, geothermal activity and lava fields; you will learn all about its history and mythical stories.

The first stop will be the Bridge Between the Two Continents, where you can hear all about the tectonic plates are continuously drifting apart, plus you’ll get to cross between the two continents. Onwards from here you will visit Gunnuhver and Krysuvik geothermal fields.

You will then head to Reykjavik City Airport for the short internal flight; the group will be split between 2 chartered planes to either Akureyri or Husavik Airports in the North East of Iceland.

After landing in the evening, there will be a transfer by coach to the hotel (Hotel Sel) at the shore of the stunning Lake Myvatn, where you will be welcomed with late supper and wonderful hospitality.

    Day 2 – Friday 14 June 2019

After a good sleep and breakfast, the group will split into smaller groups of approximately 30. Each group will have its own guide and follow the day’s plans in a different sequence to ensure that this wonderful wilderness stays special for each person. The last thing we would want is to take you to a beautiful remote location with a lot of people in it!

Today you will visit the town of Husavik, centred around fishing, where the group will all enjoy a whale watching tour. In previous years we have been very lucky and have seen stunning humpback and minke whales as well as other sea life and some much loved puffins. Amazingly, in recent years we’ve also seen Blue Whales, the largest animal in the world! This is always a favourite part of the trip! Back on land, you will have lunch and then have time to browse around the town or perhaps visit the whale museum (this is an additional cost).

And now for something completely different... during the afternoon you will take a tour around the Lake Myvatn area, famous for volcanic formations, boiling mud pools and bird life. You will also get to walk up and around a volcanic crater rim and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top.

After an exhilarating day, you will return to the hotel for a relaxing dinner, and if you are still awake... enjoy an optional visit to the Nature Baths, for a soak in the wonderful mineral waters in preparation for your Marathon tomorrow night. Please note: this visit is an additional cost.

    Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

    Day 3 – Saturday 15 June 2019

After breakfast, you will leave the hotel in your smaller groups to visit the famous and breathtaking Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. You will also get to explore the Asbyrgi canyon and Jokulsa river.

The tour will include a short stop for lunch and you will then return to the hotel at 16.30 so that you can rest before the BIG night! The evening will begin with everybody coming together for the Pre-Challenge Tactics Talk, followed by the Pasta Party, and when everybody is ready and raring to go, you will all be transferred to the Nature Baths where the MoonWalk will start and finish!

The MoonWalk Iceland adventure takes place during the summer solstice and will begin at midnight… and what a Marathon! Centred around Lake Myvatn with its stunning mirror-like reflections, volcanic scenery and lava rocks. You will be surrounded by nature – including sheep and white horses. It is simply spectacular.

    Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

    Day 4 – Sunday 16 June 2019

After crossing the Finish Line, at some time on Sunday morning... your celebration begins with a delicious breakfast.

Shuttle buses will transport you back to the hotel and you will have the opportunity to add-on and enjoy a well-deserved massage, to soothe any strains and treat those tired muscles. You will then have time to sleep before the afternoons fun begins.

Time to celebrate with Afternoon Tea, plenty of cake and champagne! You will be so busy chatting and enjoying each other’s company and sharing stories from the night's escapade, that you won’t notice the afternoon rolling into the Farewell Celebration Dinner, a wonderful opportunity to feast on many of the local delicacies!

It will be a truly magnificent day!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. (Please note, this massage is an additional cost and our Unique Challenges Team will be in contact in April regarding booking this and this will need to be paid in ISK – Icelandic Krona on your first night in Iceland).

    Day 5 – Monday 17 June 2019

Following an early breakfast, you will transfer by coach from your hotel to Akureyri or Husavik Airports in time for your flight to Reykjavik.

The group will arrive into Reykjavik City Airport across 2 different flights and you will land between 9-10:00, you and your bag will be transferred to our central city centre hotel to drop your bags (check-in is after 14:00). From 11:00 you can then relax, explore and shop!

You'll then have a day and night to explore Reykjavik and enjoy some of what the South of Iceland has to offer. Reykjavik is the world’s most northern capital and is a cocktail of colourful buildings, Viking history, charming and quirky museums, wonderful shopping, and not to mention it’s captivating landscape. Set on the coastline, with a backdrop of snow topped peaks, Reykjavik is a superb base for visiting South Iceland’s natural wonders; glacier-topped volcanoes, shimmering falls, the famous Golden Circle and so much more. There are many cosmopolitan restaurants, bars and fun places to visit. Enjoy the nightlife and it can be quite surreal, as it’s light till late!

Please note: You will also have the opportunity to book extra tours for this day and our Unique Challenges Team will send you some fantastic activities to chose from; Golden Circle Tour, a helicopter tour, super jeeps, horse riding or even venturing inside a volcano.

    Only breakfast included today.

    Day 6 – Tuesday 18 June 2019

After a day and evening in the capital, today is the day we return home. You’ll have one last final treat and what a way to end your Icelandic journey!

You will have an early coach transfer from the hotel to go and spend some relaxing time at the famous Blue Lagoon and enjoy a soak in the wonderful mineral waters. The silky blue waters and steam will really help you unwind and relax before your return home. At the Blue Lagoon, you will be provided with a towel and a small Blue Lagoon body lotion. You can pick up lunch here, either in the Lava Restaurant, café or shop, or you can pick up lunch at the airport.

You will be picked up from the Blue Lagoon approx at 09:45 and transferred to Keflavik Airport to check in at 10:00. The flight departs at 12:30 with arrival back in London at 16:30 and then head home!

We wave goodbye to new friends and the Walk the Walk team, leaving with memories to last a lifetime. What a fantastic experience!

    Only breakfast included today.

Please note – all timings are subject to airline alterations.
