The MoonWalk Iceland Itinerary
Day 1 – Thursday 29 May 2025
You will meet the team at London Heathrow in the morning (10:00 - TBC) and your MoonWalk Iceland adventure begins!
On arrival in Keflavik, we will take an internal flight from Reykjavik City Airport to the North East of Iceland.
After landing in the evening, there will be a transfer by coach to the hotel (Hotel Sel) at the shore of the stunning Lake Myvatn, where you will be welcomed with a late supper and wonderful hospitality.
Included: Dinner
Day 2 – Friday 30 May 2025
After a good sleep and breakfast, the group will split into smaller groups. Each group will have its own guide and follow the day’s plans in a different sequence to ensure that this wonderful wilderness stays special for each person. The last thing we would want is to take you to a beautiful remote location with a lot of people in it!
Today you will visit the town of Husavik, centred around fishing, where the group will enjoy a whale watching tour. In previous years we have been very lucky and have seen stunning humpback and minke whales as well as other sea life and some much loved puffins. Amazingly, in recent years we’ve also seen Blue Whales, the largest animal in the world! This is always a favourite part of the trip! Back on land, you will have lunch and then have time to browse around the town.
In the afternoon you will take a tour around the Lake Myvatn area, famous for volcanic formations, boiling mud pools and bird life. You will also get to walk up and around a volcanic crater rim and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top.
After an exhilarating day, you will return to the hotel for a relaxing dinner, and if you are still awake... enjoy an optional visit to the Nature Baths (additional cost) for a soak in the wonderful mineral waters in preparation for your Marathon tomorrow night.
Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 3 – Saturday 31 May 2025
After breakfast, you will leave the hotel in your smaller groups to visit the famous and breathtaking Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe. You will also get to explore the Asbyrgi Canyon and Jokulsa river.
The tour will include a short stop for lunch and you will then return to the hotel late afternoon, so that you can rest before the BIG night! The evening will begin with everybody coming together for the Pre-Challenge Tactics Talk, followed by the Pasta Party, and when everybody is ready and raring to go, we walk together to the Start line close to the hotel for a warm up before your MoonWalk marathon begins!
The MoonWalk Iceland will begin at midnight… and what a Marathon it is! Centred around Lake Myvatn with its stunning mirror-like reflections, volcanic scenery and lava rocks. You will be surrounded by nature – including sheep and white horses. It is simply spectacular.
Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 4 – Sunday 1 June 2025
After crossing the Finish Line on Sunday morning... your celebration begins with a delicious breakfast back at the Hotel... then you will have the opportunity for a trip to the Nature Baths for a soak in mineral waters to soothe any strains and treat those tired muscles. You will then have time to sleep before the afternoon's fun begins...
Time to celebrate with Afternoon Tea, plenty of cake and prosecco! You will be so busy chatting and enjoying each other’s company and sharing stories from the night's escapade, that you won’t notice the afternoon rolling into the Celebration Dinner, a wonderful opportunity to feast on many of the local delicacies!
It will be a truly magnificent day!
Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 5 – Monday 2 June 2025
Following an early breakfast, you will be transferred by coach to the Airport for your flight to Reykjavik.
The group will arrive at Reykjavik City Airport on Monday morning and will be transferred to our city centre hotel (check-in after 15:00). It is time to relax, explore and shop! You will have the afternoon and night to explore Reykjavik and enjoy some of what the South of Iceland has to offer. Reykjavik is the world’s most northern capital and is a cocktail of colourful buildings, Viking history, charming and quirky museums, wonderful shopping, and not to mention its captivating landscape. Set on the coastline, with a backdrop of snow topped peaks, Reykjavik is a superb base for visiting South Iceland’s natural wonders; glacier-topped volcanoes, shimmering falls, the famous Golden Circle and so much more. There are many cosmopolitan restaurants, bars and fun places to visit. Enjoy the nightlife - it can be quite surreal, as it’s light till late!
Please note: You will also have the opportunity to book extra tours for this afternoon and our Events Team will send you some fantastic activities to choose from; Golden Circle Tour, a helicopter tour, super jeeps, horse riding or even venturing inside a volcano (all subject to availability and are an additional cost).
Included: Breakfast
Day 6 – Tuesday 3 June 2025
Today is the day we return home, but first, one last final treat before heading to the Airport... we will be heading to the world famous Blue Lagoon to spend some time relaxing and to enjoy a soak in the wonderful mineral waters. The silky blue waters and steam will really help you unwind and relax before your return home. You can have lunch here, either in the Lava Restaurant, café or pick something up from the shop (or have lunch at the Airport).
You will be picked up from the Blue Lagoon and transferred to Keflavik Airport to return to London Heathrow (flight time TBC).
We wave goodbye to new friends and the Walk the Walk team, leaving with memories to last a lifetime. What a fantastic experience!
