Volunteering is a great way to get involved and make a difference – and a little planning goes a long way. Got tips to share? Email [email protected]

BE PREPARED!

Being prepared is having the necessary kit you need to support you on a MoonWalk. Be comfortable in your clothing (you will receive your Volunteer Uniform after Registration) and bring with you whatever you need to get you through the night. No matter what the weather you probably need more layers than you think too!

Here are our top tips for a fabulous event experience!

  • Comfortable closed top shoes – your feet will thank you!
  • Small bag – a small rucksack, bumbag or sling bag is perfect to keep your essentials handy
  • Reusable water bottle – handy for refills
  • Insulated cup – essential (if you have one) for a hot drink or two
  • Portable phone charger – keep your phone topped up all night so you can contact (and they can contact you!) the Call Centre throughout your shift
  • Warm layers, hat and gloves – a spare pair of socks is also a game changer if it rains!
  • Waterproof trousers and jacket – nothing worse than feeling cold if the weather isn’t in our favour, so keep an eye on the weather forecast
  • Sunglasses and sun protection – often forgotten, but the sun will suddenly rise early in the morning so best to be prepared!
  • Sunscreen and lip salve – dry lips can get sore so worth bringing some lip protection if this is something you like to use
  • Tissues – just in case!
  • Extra snacks – catering will be available but if you’ve got some favourite things you know will keep you going, bring them along!

FOOD & DRINK

Eat a filling, preferably hot meal before you arrive on site that will see you through. Please do use the Volunteer Catering available to you but come well equipped with some supplies to keep you going!

KNOW WHERE THINGS ARE

Make sure you know where all the essential facilities are both in and around the area where you are Volunteering – more information will be found on your Role Briefing Notes and in your Volunteer Handbook.

ASK QUESTIONS

Anything you are unsure of, please don’t hesitate to ask the Volunteers Team or Call Centre on the night. Our job is to help you and no question will be too big or too small! Please do reach out at any time – [email protected] or call us on 01483 741430.

AND FINALLY… HAVE FUN!

You are helping thousands of people to not only reach a personal goal but to raise awareness and vital funds.

Have a great time and remember, we couldn’t do it without you!
