Kara told us that:
“After our successful fundraising for Walk the Walk Moonwalk in May, we wanted to continue our campaign of raising awareness for breast cancer. Back in January 2020, as the pandemic struck, our friend Jennie got diagnosed with breast cancer which, as you can imagine, was absolutely devastating for her and her family.
Having three small children under the age of 7 including a 5 month old baby, Jennie had to endure all her treatment on her own, due to covid restrictions.
Having had multiple surgeries and numerous treatments, Jennie celebrated this July being clear for five years, hence the decision to take part in the Moonwalk with a team of eleven to mark this huge milestone.
We raised in total over £14,000, which was mind blowing and we all crossed that finish line, slightly delirious with fatigue, plenty of blisters and a few niggles but we did it together and helped each other along the way. We did have a great time.
In May, it was decided that we would have a pink themed party to raise more money for this amazing charity and full party planning was underway.
We had the venue sorted, Kibworth Cricket Club very kindly allowed us to use their facilities free of charge, which was incredibly generous and a local DJ agreed to provide the music throughout the evening. The KCC can hold up to 140 people. We really thought we would only get maybe 50-70 people buy tickets. When we launched the event online, we were constantly checking the ticket sales!! Three weeks before the event we had only sold 20, which was mainly friends! We set ourselves a target of getting to 70, so went all out on social media advertising the event. We were surprised we had any friends or followers left as they were pretty much bombarded with the event! All group chats of school parents/ football clubs were ambushed but we hit our target of 70.
The last week before the event, our tickets continued to increase, the morning of 3rd October we had hit 135 ticket sales, which gave us a baseline amount of £1350 before we had sold a raffle ticket!
The raffle was a huge success, without sounding fussy, we needed good prizes that people would buy tickets for. We went all out on selling these tickets, even had a QR code to take payments now that people carry very little cash with them. There was no way out of buying one! We managed to raise £1200 on the raffle!
In total, we raised £2501 from our fundraising party!”
Thank you for sharing and raising such an incredible amount to unite against cancer Kara!
