Wearing a bra to take on a challenge has always been the Walk the Walk trademark!
All those years ago it was hugely controversial and maybe one of the wonderful reasons we have managed to raise so much awareness and money for our vital causes. Although dressing up in a colourfully decorated bra is now seen as part of the FUN, we know just how much courage it can take.
Hold this thought, within minutes of arriving at The MoonWalk, you will feel the spirit, energy and company of thousands of like-minded walkers at this carnival of colours, feathers, fringing and fabulousness… come prepared, and if you still feel a little self-conscious, then you always have your T-shirts… so read on.
Oh, and by the way, given that ‘anyone can get breast cancer’, we congratulate all you boys that enter into the spirit… Those of you that don a bra, have the added bonus of being able to use the cups as pockets for all those essentials!
So c’mon let’s get creating!
Not everybody is a Picasso, but don’t worry, anything goes and every bra is a unique masterpiece.
Anything goes at a MoonWalk, you don’t have to follow the theme, but some people have been asking for ideas… so here goes… feathers, fringing, tassels, beads, lights, frills, fabric pens, and gems, are just a few… let your creative juices run wild. Our themes have been fabulous over the years from funky DISCO, roll up with the CIRCUS or Yee ha! fun taking you to the WILD WEST… pick your favourite theme from one of our previous years, or check out or social media pages to find out the theme for this year’s MoonWalk!
A few simple tips will make a big difference:
- NEVER decorate under the arms on the elastic to avoid chaffing when walking.
- If you decorate the back be sure that your decoration allows the elastic to stretch, or your bra won’t fit!
- Adjust your straps before sewing any decoration onto them.
- If you stitch onto the cups try not to stitch through to the inside of the cup as it can rub after a few miles and become uncomfortable.
- Try to do at least one training walk in your bra, or at least wear it around the house for a while… always fun… to make sure it works for you!
- And if you are not too keen to show your tum or your arms… it doesn’t matter if you decorate it up to your chin and down to your knees… you’re there to be counted!
Finally, no matter what you create it’s all about joining the party and making a difference!
