Earlier this year, staff (pictured) and prisoners at Brixton Prison in South London held their own and very special 5K ZOOM Walk – ahead of the main 5K ZOOM challenge held at Walk the Walk’s MoonWalk London site on Clapham Common the next day.
HMP Brixton’s Security Governor Sabrina Parkins commented on the event:
HMP Brixton participated in the 5K ZOOM Walk, which included both prisoners and staff walking 25 laps in the inner grounds of the prison, completing a 5K walk, with the aim of fundraising for Walk the Walk and those living with cancer.
We had great weather, music, and an enthusiastic PE team cheering everyone on for the day. It was an amazing opportunity – everyone who completed the distance proudly received a medal.
57 prisoners took part during the morning, alongside six staff. In the afternoon, 55 members of staff used their lunchbreak to complete another walk. Everyone came with good vibes and energy and it was a fantastic event for us all. Huge congratulations to everyone involved and thank you to everyone who donated.
Walk the Walk’s Jen Broh joined Brixton prison staff and prisoners for their laps around the prison and to thank those taking part in this unique event for their support!
