How To Get Your Fundraising Started

Page ready? Brilliant! Now it’s time to get that total moving.

Then think about ways you can make fundraising fun. You could hold a cake sale, organise a quiz, sell something you’ve made, set yourself a sponsored challenge or get together with friends for a coffee morning. Don’t feel that you need one huge fundraising event. Lots of little ideas can add up to a fantastic total. Looking for inspiration? Take a look at our Fundraising Ideas for plenty of ways to get started.

Don’t Just Share Your Page Once!

One of the simplest ways to raise more is to keep talking about what you’re doing. Don’t worry about sharing your fundraising page more than once. Give people something new each time:

  • Share a training photo
  • Celebrate a walking milestone
  • Explain why you’re taking part
  • Tell everyone how close you are to your next target
  • Thank the people who have already donated
  • Share the muddy, rainy or funny moments too!

Instead of simply saying “Please sponsor me”, bring people along on your journey.

Make October Count

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, making it a particularly meaningful time to tell people why you’re supporting Walk the Walk

Why not bring some pink into your fundraising?

Host a pink-themed day at work, organise a pink bake sale, create a pink raffle or invite friends and colleagues to dress in pink for a donation. Whatever you choose, have your fundraising page or QR code ready so it’s quick and easy for people to support you. And don’t forget to take plenty of photos – they’re perfect for sharing afterwards and keeping your fundraising story going!

Have a Frightfully Good Fundraiser

Halloween gives you a brilliant excuse to have some fun with your fundraising. Hold a spooky bake sale, pumpkin-carving competition, Halloween quiz or fancy-dress day. Ask for a donation to enter or let people donate to vote for their favourite pumpkin, costume or creepy creation. You could even host a Halloween movie night with snacks and ask friends for a donation to join you. Fundraising doesn’t have to be scary… although your costumes certainly can be!

Remember, Remember… Your Fundraising!

As October turns into November, Bonfire Night brings another opportunity to give your fundraising a boost.

Planning ahead for Bonfire Night, is the perfect excuse to get your fundraising sparking! Start planning now and host a Fireworks & Fundraising Night with friends, family, or even your local community?

Ideas to make it work:

  • Bonfire Bakes & Hot Drinks – sell toffee apples, hot chocolate, or mulled drinks for donations.
  • “Sparkler Jar” Donations – hand out sparklers and ask for a small donation to light up the night.
  • Raffle with a Bang – organise a mini raffle or tombola at your gathering.
  • Cozy Firepit Alternative – if fireworks aren’t your thing, host a smaller firepit evening with marshmallow toasting and storytelling, charging entry as a donation.

It’s a brilliant way to make the most of the season, gather people together, and raise vital funds, all while watching the night sky light up! Small, social fundraisers can often be the easiest and the most fun!

Cosy Up for a Good Cause

Cold autumn days were made for coffee and cake! Host a Hot Chocolate & Chat, afternoon tea or coffee morning with friends, neighbours or colleagues. Ask for a small donation for a drink and cake and, if you’re feeling ambitious, add a raffle, quiz or game. Pop your fundraising QR code on the table and you’ve got yourself a simple autumn fundraiser. (Need help with getting your QR Code or adding it to a poster, get in touch with our Fundraising team).

Turn Your Autumn Shopping into Donations

Halloween shopping? Starting your Christmas shopping? Hunting for a Black Friday bargain?

Don’t forget easyfundraising.

When you shop online through participating retailers, your purchases can generate donations for Walk the Walk at no extra cost to you. It’s one of the easiest ways to support your fundraising while buying things you were planning to buy anyway.

Get Ahead with Your Christmas Fundraising

By November, Christmas fairs, school events and festive markets will be popping up everywhere, so why not use them to boost your fundraising? Book a table at a local Christmas fair and sell homemade cakes, cards, decorations, crafts or gifts. Or start planning ahead for December with a Christmas jumper day, festive bake sale, Christmas quiz, raffle or afternoon tea. Choose one festive idea, put a date in the diary and start telling people about it now.

Fundraising doesn’t have to be complicated. One message, one bake sale, one workplace conversation at a time and before you know it, you will surpass your target.
