New York FAQs

How far is it? A full Marathon: 26.2 miles. The route starts on Staten Island and travels through 5 very different neighbourhoods: Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan before finishing in Central Park.

  • Day 1 – Arrive in New York City– We recommend flying as early as you can, beating the airport rush, and giving yourself time in the afternoon to start exploring. In the evening why not tie in a visit to Central Park for the Marathon Parade of Nations!
  • Day 2 – Start your day with an opening ceremony at the United Nations Building and the 5K Abbots Dash to the Finish (optional extra), then it is time to head to the Expo to collect your race entry. Whether you love shopping, visiting landmarks like Liberty, people-watching in Central Park, or eating your way around New York’s wonderful restaurants and diners, we can guarantee you a fantastic day. In the evening the Team will come together for the tactics talk and a 3-course Pasta Party meal.
  • Day 3 – NEW YORK CITY MARATHON DAY – 26.2 miles through Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens The Bronx and Manhattan, all 5 boroughs in one glorious day!
  • Day 4 – Start your day by celebrating with breakfast at possibly New York’s most unique diner, followed by more of doing what you love, whether it’s relaxing in Central Park with a celebratory glass of champagne at the Boat House, exploring the Upper West Side, one of our favourite areas, strolling along the High Line or meandering around Soho, whatever you do, make sure you wear your medal, New Yorkers will love you for it! Most of the team will depart this evening… So long New York City!

This challenge is one of the Abbot World Marathon Majors, when it comes to Marathons it’s a 5 star one, and certainly one of the best in the world!  It will require training and preparation as for the most enjoyable experience, we recommend that you aim to complete the distance within a maximum time of 6 hours 30 minutes – 7 hours.

Your aim is to reach a constant walking pace of between 14 – 15 minute miles over the distance; this is very achievable by following Walk the Walk’s tried and tested step-by-step Training Plan.

You may be interested to know that this is where Walk the Walk completed its first challenge back in 1996, and since then our Founder, Nina, has completed the marathon 24 times… Still loves it and will be back for no. 25!

If you would like to chat about the training, just give the Events Team a call on 01483 741430 or send them an email.
