A 14-week Training Plan will be sent out with your Walker Pack. For this challenge, you will need to commit to the training plan. It can be intense as it includes consecutive days of training walks and also cycling days, so you will need to consider your time. What we can guarantee is that the Training Plan will fully prepare you to walk and cycle 173 miles over 6 consecutive days. Alongside this, we also recommend taking part in other activities such as swimming or Pilates, an ideal companion to walking, in order to increase your overall level of fitness.
The route is split into two… Cycling and Walking!
Cycling, is a mix of on-road, and off-road pathways. The cycling is not extreme and is suitable for anyone who can ride a bike… however, we would recommend that if you have not ridden a bike for some time that you do include it into your training and preparation. By the time we arrive in Porto, all members of the Team must feel comfortable cycling on roads, and have a competent level of road safety, be able to signal with either hand and feel confident to ride amongst traffic where needed.
The walking is a variety of tarmac, stone or dirt paths depending on the area. Whilst the terrain is not extreme in any way and in the main comfortable, the challenge is in the overall distance covered and with the two disciplines of cycling and walking.
