1. A picture speaks a thousand words

Go on – be brave and put a profile picture on your page. It makes it so much more personal and it really doesn’t have to be at all embarrassing. Posting just one picture on your fundraising page will almost triple the donations you have received!

2. Write a really interesting personal message – turn it into a story

What will encourage your friends, family and strangers to donate? Do you have a personal reason for taking on the challenge? Is it for a loved one or is it for yourself? A personal message will raise double the amount in donations.

3. Share your page! Facebook, Twitter, Emails… the world is your oyster

You can make £70 with just a simple click! Share your page link in a personal message on Facebook, email everyone you know with a friendly plea or post about your efforts on a group page asking your friends to get behind you and telling them why you’re doing what you’re doing for Walk the Walk.

4. Keep your page updated – this is really important

Started your training? Organised a fundraising event? Completed a really long walk? Write about it, post pictures about it, it’s your space, so use it! Your friends and family will love seeing how you are getting on.

I started updating and blogging on my fundraising page for the first time this year & was so surprised with the response. I didn’t feel I was asking for money all the time.  It highlights events & mileage covered in training & shows the effort you go to, which surprised people as they only see the end result. And I got more donations too! – Jane

5. Say thank you to each donation

It’s so important to thank everyone who donates some of their hard earned cash. Visit your page and leave a message of thanks. Make it short, sweet and sincere and most importantly personal. If you think the donation is really big, then why not even follow up with a letter or card – snail mail has its place.

Set up your page

You need to enter a challenge first. As part of your entry your fundraising page will be created for you! Make your page personal to you. Add a photograph and tell the world why you are taking part. Making your page personal really gets results. You are then ready to start sharing the link to your online fundraising page! It’s as simple as that.

Fundraising Pages

Before you enter a challenge you will need to decide if you are going to fundraise as part of a team. If this is the case, you will need to either create a team or join an existing team when you are registering for your event. This means you and your teammates will be walking and fundraising together and a team fundraising page will be created for you. The first person to register needs to create the team and will become the team leader.

Fundraising as a Team

You have a team and would like to fundraise together, but are unsure of where to start? We have made it easy for you! All you need to do is follow these four steps:

  1. Come up with a unique team name and choose a team leader. This is the hard bit.
  2. The lucky chosen leader will then need to register for one of our events (by clicking “create a new team and register” on the entry form) and just follow the instructions on the registration page.
  3. As part of the registration process for our event, the leader will have a team fundraising page created for them automatically in addition to their individual page.
  4. The team members can then register and will be asked for the team name. They will automatically be added to the team fundraising page once they have activated their own fundraising page.

Editing the Team Page

Please be aware that only the team leader can add a team photo to the Team Fundraising Page and edit the ‘Story’ section to tell supporters why you are all Walking the Walk. They can do this by clicking on “Edit this Team Page”.

Did you know?

Unlike the traditional methods of fundraising, we receive your online sponsorship money quickly. This means we can grant it to the places that need it quickly too! Not only that, but about 80% of donations made online are applicable for Gift Aid (compared to about only 30% made through sponsorship forms). As the basic rate of tax is 20%, this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £12.50 to the charity.
