New York, New York... So good they named it twice!

Pink Bra 96X59px

July's Monthly Challenge takes you on a tour of New York City... virtually of course! With a touch of Walk the Walk magic, a sprinkle of summer and our weekly news, you'll be hearing the subway under your feet, smell the coffee and pretzels coming from the vendors on every street corner and seeing the infamous yellow cabs driving by... we'll make you feel like you're actually there!

Leading you through the streets of Manhattan, you can enjoy the sights and sounds at your leisure, imagining you're in the hustle and bustle of your very own private tour of New York, New York!

So whilst you might not be able to get away right now, you can choose your distance from the options below and then complete your challenge at any time from the 1st - 31st July 2021. All routes start on Randall's Island (this is famously where the MoonWalk New York started!). To find out where your route will then take you and the sites you will see look here.

Take it Steady! - 10k (6.55 miles)

Ramp it Up! - Half marathon (13.1 miles)

Intensity! - Full marathon (26.2 miles)

You can choose the option of Walk the Walk support and receive the Monthly Challenge Summer medal, or you can do it purely for the love of Walking with our Free option.

Every mile you walk is good for you and will help those living with cancer!

I love New York! If I can't be there in real life, going virtually will do!

The July Monthly Challenge and 'Summer in the City'

Each month, Walk the Walk bring you a different walking challenge. Created not only as a way to keep you fitter, healthier and motivated to keep moving, but to also develop your walking skills. This month is all about picking up some good Power Walking skills, choosing and committing to a distance and enjoying the sights and sounds of New York City wherever you are!

Whilst we can't physically take you to New York, we can definitely take you there in spirit! Close your eyes and imagine the sounds and smells of the big apple... but open your eyes before you start walking! You get to choose your distance and when and where you want to complete your challenge. The most important thing is just to get out walking, enjoy being active and have fun.

What is 'Summer in the City'?

How will the challenge be tracked?

What is Strava?

Strava is a free app to download, that uses GPS to record your distance walked... this is automatically connected to your online fundraising page on entry.

How do I get it?

You can connect your Strava account when you create your online fundraising page or later on via the "Connect to Strava" button on your fundraising page. This will be visible when you are logged in.

IMPORTANT! Your Strava settings!

When you are completing your challenge miles, ensure Strava is set to 'Everyone' and select 'walk' as the activity otherwise the miles may not be logged on your fundraising page. We can then track your miles to show you have achieved your goal!

For all other training or non-challenge walks set Strava to 'private'.

What if I can't or do not want to use Strava or want to use another device to track my distance?

If you are using a different measuring device please take a picture or a screenshot of your activity. Whilst you are logged into your fundraising page you can then add each of your walks as a manual activity to your page and add this photo to each activity, which will then be included in your total mileage. Click here for instructions for mobile upload or computer upload.

This must be received by 4th August 2021

Once we have notification your challenge is completed we will send an online certificate and your well-deserved medal will follow in the post.

Proof of completing the Summer in the City Challenge

Is there a deadline for giving in my proof of completion?

Yes. This date is the 4th August 2021

What will happen if I don’t get my proof of completion to you in time?

We will send you an email to remind you a few days before the deadline to send in your proof of completion. If we do not receive this in time we will be unable to send you your medal.
