Day 1 - Tuesday 22 June 2021: Flight to Lima

Your journey of South American Incan discovery begins!

You will meet the Walk the Walk Team at the airport for our flight to Lima... belt yourself in… this is the start of an action packed adventure! Food on the flight included.

You will arrive in the bustling metro city of Lima in the early evening, which is the capital of Peru replacing Cusco in 1535. Initially called La Ciudad de Los Reyes (City of Kings), Lima was the principal Spanish capital of South America, and gateway to the continent, responsible for establishing their Empire. Lima has maintained its character and heritage and has grown into a bustling, modern metropolis with an abundance of things to see and do.

After touching down, you will be transferred to our hotel in Lima.  This evening, we will venture out for our first South American dinner together and try a little Peruvian dancing if it takes your fancy.

    Included: Dinner

    Day 2 - Wednesday 23 June 2021: Lima - Cusco – Amaru - Cusco

Today we will take a morning short flight to Cusco, then head to the mountain town of Pisaq, located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

We will explore Amaru and the community that lives in the Sacred Valley; where you will be welcomed traditionally. You will have the opportunity to learn about their beliefs, customs and a very different lifestyle that is all ruled by their respect for Mother Earth. We will also visit their local farm, where we can learn about the different uses and properties of medicinal plants. This afternoon you will also have the opportunity to learn about the process of weaving, from how to shear sheep and alpacas, to using natural plants to dye the wools… then you’ll help weave a garment.

You will have time in this area to explore the local community and its markets, including jewelry, crafts, clothes and wonderful fresh food… it’s a great place to start practising your bargaining skills.

In the evening we will return to Cusco and check in at our hotel. As Cusco is at a height of 3,400 metres, you will have begun to acclimatise to the altitude already in preparation for the trail!

In the evening we will come together and have a lovely meal and begin to explore and discover this wonderful and historic city that has also become a bustling hub.

    Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3 - Thursday 24 June 2021: Explore Cusco, enjoy the Inti Raymi Festival!

A day and evening to yourself to indulge in the wonders of Cusco... where to begin!

Today is a very special day… not only are you in Peru during the Winter Solstice, but you will also get to be part of the world renowned Inti Raymi Festival ‘Festival of the Sun’. This is the largest festival in South America, and you will have the day to watch the colourful parades through the streets of Cusco, enjoy the festivities, street music and re-enactment of ancient Incan rituals.

Apart from the historical aspects of this town and of course the influence of the Incas, there is an abundance of little side streets to explore, shops to meander around and lots of lovely cafes and restaurants offering delicious local food. One of our favourite pastimes is to sit in a restaurant in the main square and just watch Cusco in all its glory.

This evening is free for you to explore and try out the local restaurants and delicacies and see what Cusco has to offer at night - enjoy.

    Included: Breakfast
