The SunWalk London Four Years On

Mum is now 5 years in remission and turned 80 this May and we will continue to walk & volunteer for Walk the Walk in celebration of Mum / Nanna xxxxxx

July 6th saw my sister Helen my niece Isabella and me taking part in our 4th SunWalk for Walk the Walk.

We’ve always done the 5k just so Isabella doesn’t get too bored with the ‘are we nearly there yet’ But 5K suits us all and we have fun in trying to beat our PBs. We have now managed it in just under 55 mins – YEAH Isabella’s Posse!!!

Our mum/nanna was diagnosed in 2008 with breast cancer and my journey with Walk the Walk started in the October of that year registering to walk the half Moon in May 2009 which I did in 4 hours but alas it took a great toll on my knees. Both being operated on in the December and January.

Mum’s cancer was in remission by the time I did that walk and after my knee ops I decided to volunteer for Walk the Walk instead which I have done every year since but when SunWalk came to Battersea Park us three girls jumped at the chance – Isabella especially so she ‘could help ladies like nanna’

The minutes silence before we all set off I thought would worry her but she holds hands with whoever is next to her and does ‘her thing’ with a big hand clap at the end of it.

Isabella is very proud of her costumes she makes but has yet to be brave enough to ‘do it in a bra’ – that’s ok though – she’s taking part and that’s fab for a 12 year old. Her great thing is to have her photo taken at the ‘Your medal is waiting for you’ sign and to see her growth in the last four years is amazing. (obviously we know the sign isn’t at the same height each year but it adds to the fun!!)
