Walk the Walk to raise a Million!

The iconic MoonWalk London is going virtual on Saturday 15th May 2021!

Nina Barough, Founder and Chief Executive of organisers breast cancer charity Walk the Walk said:

“Walk the Walk has taken the decision for the health and safety of all its supporters and fundraisers to make The MoonWalk London a virtual experience.

Covid may stop live events, but it doesn’t stop the effects of cancer. The situation for many living with cancer has become isolating and unbearable, and as anxiety increases, more and more treatments have been delayed due to lack of staff and space in hospitals. Our need to raise essential funds and to help where we can, has never been greater.

Walk the Walk’s mission is to raise £1 million, allowing us to continue providing vital support to frontline cancer services that are needed NOW. We ask everyone to unite and, join the Virtual MoonWalk or just make a donation. Whilst we can’t come together physically, we know that many people doing a little bit is a powerful force …so let’s generate that power and in true Walk the Walk spirit, raise money, get fit and healthy, and have fun, uniting virtually together for the same incredible cause”.
The ethos of Walk the Walk has always been to encourage women, men and children to appreciate the potential that everyone has for their own good health and wellbeing. Covid-19 has placed a very different meaning on taking care of both mental and physical health. It is a sad day, that Walk the Walk and its supporters are unable to hold hands together in a common cause!

However, behind every cloud there is always a silver lining, and by signing up for the Virtual MoonWalk London, …not only will people be taking an important step to safeguard their own health, they will be raising much needed money to help those living with the anxiety and stress of not only the pandemic, but also cancer.

Walking has often been described as almost the perfect form of exercise. It can build overall fitness at any age, help maintain mental and physical wellbeing, support weight loss, as well as being a great aid to prevention against disease. With gyms and leisure centres having been forced to close during the pandemic, many people started walking for exercise for the first time, and realised the many benefits that is holds. Walking is one of the most flexible forms of exercise around – just step out of your front door and go!

The Virtual MoonWalk London is offering a walking challenge for every ability, with distances of 6.55 miles (New Moon), 13.1 miles (Half Moon), 26.2 miles (Full Moon) and 52.4 miles, a Back to Back Marathon (Over The Moon). And whilst The MoonWalk is traditionally held overnight, as Walk the Walk is not there to look after everyone, this year there will be various start times during the day, to be confirmed closer to the date.

Every Walker taking part in the Virtual MoonWalk London will be sent one of Walk the Walk’s unique “Bra T-shirts”, making them a truly inspirational sight on the paths and pavements across the country on 15th May!

All Walkers and Supporters should keep to current government social distancing guidelines during their Virtual MoonWalk.
