PRESS RELEASE: £50,000 from Squire Patton Boggs for breast cancer

Law firm, Squire Patton Boggs, has presented £50,000 to breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk.

Law firm, Squire Patton Boggs, has presented £50,000 to breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk.

Nina Barough CBE, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk, was given a super-size cheque by Stephanie Perraton and Janette Lucas, Partners at Squire Patton Boggs, at a special event held at their London offices today (Wednesday 25th October).

The donation was made during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as employees from their four UK offices (London, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds) celebrated reaching the £50,000 fundraising milestone. Squire Patton Boggs has had a team at The MoonWalk London since 2015, and the money has been raised by employees walking a marathon through the night wearing decorated bras as they complete the iconic event.

Next year’s Wild West themed MoonWalk will up to 30 members of staff from Squire Patton Boggs, as in previous years, joining 15,000 women and men as they pound the pavements through the night in an effort to raise even more funds and awareness to fight breast cancer.

Stephanie Perraton, Partner at Squire Patton Boggs said:

“We’re delighted to present these funds to Walk the Walk. There’s been great support for the charity across our firm, from the walkers themselves to all the colleagues, friends and family who have sponsored us. On a personal level, this is very close to my heart, as my mother had breast cancer. If we can continue to work towards even better treatment and support by fundraising for Walk the Walk, it can only be a good thing.”

Nina Barough CBE, Founder and Chief Executive at Walk the Walk said:

“I felt very honoured today to receive the cheque for £50,000 from the team at Squire Patton Boggs. It's a wonderful example of how from small beginnings with one or two people walking, this tiny acorn has grown and is now involving many people within the company, not only committed to raising money for Walk the Walk and our breast cancer causes, but also achieving their personal goals which is incredibly empowering in the workplace. It looks like in 2018 there will be an even larger team taking part. Their everyday work will be business as usual, but with the added injection of fun and activity as the walkers start training for The MoonWalk.”

The bra is the trademark of Walk the Walk, and thanks to the thousands of Walkers wearing decorated bras as they take part in the charity’s MoonWalks, and other events, more than £121 million has been raised for breast cancer causes.

Since 1996, Walk the Walk has made grants to charities including; Breast Cancer Now, Penny Brohn UK, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, Tenovus, The Haven, and The Christie Hospital.  The charity also has its own special project, providing funding to hospitals across the UK to purchase Scalp Cooling systems, special machines which help many people undergoing chemotherapy to retain their hair.

The MoonWalk London takes place on Saturday 12 May 2018.  To find out more, or to sign up to take part visit walkthewalk.org
